Why are old pokemon games so addicting?

Even with the modern advances in video game technology, such as the PS3 and the XBOX360. (I have a PS3) And their highly graphical games and engaging gameplay.....I always find myself reverting back to the old school, square cartridge pokemon games. Then, I get hooked on that pokemon game and cant stop playing until i complete it!

What is it about pokemon games that makes them so addicting? Even though ive played them dozes of times? Why are old pokemon games so addicting?
They are so addicting because you can not truly lose, the game takes place in a unique world that no other game can ever copy, and because there is always something to do. Also, the old pokemon games are memory filled, actually they all are if you really got into the game. You really get kind of attached to the game because of everything you ever done in it. New games are usually made for a one time run, and they usually lose most of their greatness after a certain amount of play time, but games like pokemon, well, there is just something in them that keeps pulling you back.
I'm not so sure why. I was hooked with COD MW2, but then i got my ds out and started playing platinum version. I was staring at the screen so long my eyes started getting tired. I guess it's just the fact that it always gives you a kick that you never thought about until the time you played it. I remember when i got Blue version when i was younger. It was so fun.Why are old pokemon games so addicting?
they weave crack into the screen jk jk

they are very addicting too some people because of the fighting style and others because of its rpg typeness and others even more because of the appeal of the creatures i personally like all those things and the old school style graphics they were just so fun and as pokemon progresses the games get less and less funWhy are old pokemon games so addicting?
