Do bootlegged pokemon games for gameboy work?

I just bought a bootlegged pokemon emerald game from eBay by accident...

Does a bootlegged game work as well as a real version? And if they don't is there any way to 'fix" the game so it works ok and doesn't corrupt save data randomly?

It probably should work fine. Bootlegs are generally just copies of the game, or in some cases, a copy of a movie before it is released to DVD. My Dad's recieved a couple bootlegged movies and some computer programs too, and they worked just fine. I doubt that it would be corrupted. If you are concerned about it, contact eBay and tell them that the user had sent you a bootleg of a game. They should help you out.
