Do you have to have one of the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games to play pokemon farm?

I am buying pokemon farm and the description says that you can transfer pokemon from your diamond or pearl pokemon game for ds. But i dont have one of those games. Does that mean that i wont have any pokemon on my farm?

the game is called pokemon ranch. the game is like pokemon channel so you will be able to play it without diamond or pearl but it just says that if you do you can transfer your pokemon so i dont think you need diamond or pearl to play.
